Well it just so happens I have a single son ....
He is cute ,has his own job ,does not live in my basement ,and so far has his own teeth and a full head of hair ! What a catch ! Would you like to live in the middle of no where Iowa ,USA ? Of course he may shoot me if he knew I was trolling for women for him ....but he does keep asking for a girlfriend for Christmas !!!
I will send him a link to this thread and you two can work out the minor details !

In the JW world long engagements are frowned upon because it could lead the couple into pressure to commit immorality ,so says the Watchtower
I remember a couple of instances were couples broke off their engagement , in the first one the man was reproved .In the other instances a talk was given about keeping our word ,making our yes mean yes type of talk ,but I don't remember them getting any restrictions .

Lost best friend...
by lostinnj83 inso i am not even out yet and i feel as though i have already lost my best friend.. i asked her if i could use her as a reference on an apartment rental if i decide to go the route of separation from my husband.
she knows all of what i went through in my marriage and how much pain and suffering that i have endured.. at first she said yes, no problem, then she asked if i would be speaking to the elders about it, and i said no, she asked why not, i said that is my choice to do or not do.. her response was that i pray and speak to the elders and that she thinks it best that i don't use her as a reference because she would feel that she was supporting my decision to separate.
i said fine but i also said that her response seems to be more of a concern about me speaking to the elders rather than being concerned for my well being.

So what she is saying is that she doesn't want to look bad in the eyes of the Elders if it turns out they don't support your move .
I am so sorry she can not find her true self ,and support you as a real friend should . She is folding under pressure to conform to 'what will the Elders think ' ,instead of normal true friendship thinking that should be ,'How can I support and help my friend with her goals "
Very sorry . Can you use someone else for a reference maybe from work ?

Who have you lost?
by Strawberryfieldsforever ini was just thinking the other day how small our family is now that we aren't jw's.
we are thankful that we at least have our children!
my husband lost his mom and dad and only sister and her husband and all their children.

My husband's Mom and step-Father are Witnesses ,but don't live close by ,they see us only once a year . They also will accept phone calls from us ,but do not make the effort to call us . When we do speak it is strained and uneasy . We use to be very friendly with each other .
Husband's step Brother and sister in law only live a few blocks away ,they have not spoken to us in at least 5 yrs . My sister in law will look right through me if she runs into me at the grocery store . Two nephews and their wives also will have nothing to do with us anymore .
On my side of the family I have lost contact with one of my older brothers, his wife ,daughter and her husband . Not spoken to any of them for four years .On the plus side I regained a relationship with my oldest brother and his family .( he had been disassociated at 18 and we only completely reconnected seven yrs ago when he was 53 ! )
None of the 'friends' we grew up with ,and raised our children with the past 27 yrs will have anything to do with us . Not one ever called or came by to just ask personally what happened and why did we stop attending meetings . Only one 'new' Witness has ever asked this question, and that was a year after we quit going when he spoke to me during a business situation .
It was tough at first ,but then I began to appreciate how happier I was away from all the Witness gossip and drama .I think it took me a good three years to stop feeling so lost and lonely . I built new circles of friends ones that I chose to be around and not just automatically accepted because we shared the same religion . My friends now are diverse- different ages ,religions ,opinions ,and I love it !

by mouthy ini went to shut my door ( it has ice in the ledge) i shoved it with my side ugh!!!.
if i laugh or cough i near die with pain.i went to the hospital for xrays.
it is a torn muscle.

Books that make you go hmm....
by jgnat init's occurred to me that i have been reshaped by the books i have read, taking my new knowledge for granted, and forgetting that those around me have not been on the same journey.
as a consequence sparks fly, as iron sharpening iron, as we strive to understand each other (or to insist that we are not the same).
there are a few books that stand out, as i refer to them over and over again.
